Nature MAP Cartosemiotic Analysis OF the KyrgyzSTAN National Atlas

The paper discusses results of nature maps cartosemiotic analysis for the Atlas of Kyrgyzstan. The Atlas was developed as complex Atlas of Kirghiz Soviet Socialistic Republic (Kirghiz SSR) in two volumes at 1987. Based on the semiotic structure, the Atlas covers 11 information modules and two thematic parts. The most informative module is a "map module", which includes 82.5 pages with presentations of maps; it forms 52.2% of the Atlas total contents.

The first thematic part (22 maps) is an introductory one with toponomy and history of research. The second thematic part is environment one; it has 9 thematical subsections and 172 maps. The cartosemiotic analysis for the five subsections (surface waters, soils, flora, fauna, landscape and environment) based on 68 maps was carried out. The results of cartosemiotic analysis in table and diagram forms are presented.
